Myanmar

December 2017

Traveling in Myanmar for a week was an extremely humbling and eye opening experience. I have never been to a country that resembles anything like Myanmar before, so everything I witnessed here was completely new to me. We were a new sight to the Burmese as well. We were the first Americans our tour guide had ever had, and she had been touring for 17 years. People there had never seen Americans or American money, so they would take pictures of us and our currency. Myanmar used to be a closed off country and its members did not have access to wifi and there was no free communication with the outside world. This was all due to the stringent military regime that was in place. Currently, there is "The Lady" in Myanmar, who has done so much for the people and continues to improve the lives of those in the country. It was eye opening to see Myanmar and to learn about the way of life in this beautiful country. The people in this country were extremely kind and welcoming, and their hospitality was honestly overwhelming. During our visit we went to Yangon, Inle Lake, Began, and Mandalay.
